Amaryllis by Night

Amaryllis at Night 4612
While we were away this past weekend our amaryllis bloomed! Boy! Did it bloom! There are currently three large flowers and one or two more on the way. My mother-in-law has a similar one that is just a couple of days behind ours. I took a few quick shots the other day – nothing impressive. Then this evening I noticed how the front porch light lit the flower against the dark background. I liked the look so I put the camera on the tripod and took some night shots of it. This is lit only by our front porch light and is a 13-second exposure.

Lemon Tree Blossom

Lemon Tree Blossom

Originally uploaded by CatDancing

Many things are going on these days. I have photos to share on this blog but haven’t had the chance to actually post them lately. Here’s a quickie. We have three lemon trees that are still fairly small. One died this past year, one has an infection, but the third is thriving. I spent a little while photographing the very fragrant blossoms today. I wanted practice using the camera I’ve rented for the week – a Canon Rebel T2i.

Update – I’ve since learned that this was our orange tree that I was shooting, not the lemon tree. No wonder I liked the scent of the blossoms so much!
